How to Recreate Carrie Bradshaw’s Print-On-Print Look

It’s been 23 years since the first episode of Sex and the City aired, but fashionistas everywhere still reference the incredible outfits seen on its main characters to this day.

And if And Just Like That… did anything, it renewed our interest in the show’s fashion (and of all things, Peloton). So, I thought, as a nod to the revival, I’d recreate one of Carrie Bradshaw’s most iconic looks — this playful take on pattern clash she wears in the fourth seasons of the show. Why this look in particular? Well, it’s bold, unexpected and totally something I’d never think to wear!

So, I challenged myself. At first, I began scouring the internet for a starfish print coat — which proved to be a much more difficult task than I initially thought. (Can someone put starfish on coats? Please, and thank you.) Then, I shifted my approach: The goal here wasn’t to put together an exact replica, but to be inspired by it. So, I decided to flip the script and focus on a printed top instead.

Playing off the colors on Carrie’s coat — pinks and blues — I chose this Paco Robanne top, which matched nicely with the Delpozo abstract-print pants I was lucky to find earlier. Next, a white coat to pull the look together! With the temperature dropping quickly in Los Angeles, I knew I wanted something that was a little more substantial than Carrie’s thin, more fall-appropriate coat. Also, I opted for white boots instead of sandals (again, weather!)

Lastly, the bag. Carrie here is holding a cute little 90s baguette bag in greens and pinks, so I went with this statement piece that added another layer of print to the whole look. Here, I’ve rounded up all of the items I used for this outfit and where to shop them.

Writer’s Update: All items from this look are now sold out.
