Visually: Inside 29Rooms, Refinery29’s Instagram Pop-Up in Los Angeles

The lowdown: Ever since its inception in 2015, 29Rooms—a haven of 29 “individually curated, artist-collaborated rooms” dreamed up by the folks at Refinery29—has become somewhat of a magnet for social media enthusiasts. This year was no exception. The Reef, a 860,000-square-foot creative space in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, played host to the five-day affair and housed a smorgasbord of fun and thought-provoking interactive experiences. Take, the “Teen Bedroom,” a space peppered with 90’s sitcom posters where attendees could hunker down (but just for the two-minute time limit) on a shaggy carpet for a game of Mario Cart. Or the “No Filter” corner, where participants could go to town posing for selfies in different, kaleidoscopic-colored light setups. Whether it was palm reading or spinning a giant game show wheel, it’s safe to say Refinery29 had this whole pop-up phenomenon down pat.
